Reston, VA, February 8, 2005 - STG, Inc., a leading provider of information technology, technical security, engineering, and scientific services support to the government and military, announced today that it was appraised at maturity level 3 of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Model for both Systems Engineering and Software Engineering. The CMMI credential demonstrates that STG’s software and systems engineering solutions apply systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches, which enable results-oriented outcomes for STG clients that are currently adapting new disciplines to meet the President’s Management Agenda
Margaret Glover, a Software Engineering Institute (SEI) authorized Lead Appraiser from Tera Quest, performed the assessment. According to Glover, STG’s existing ISO 9001:2000-certified quality management system played a major role in expediting the CMMI Level 3 assessment. She added, “The CMMI Level 3 process normally take three years—STG completed it in 13 months, largely due to the caliber of their existing ISO 9001:2000 quality management system and organizational-wide commitment toward a successful assessment.”
Phillip J. Foote, STG’s Chief Operating Officer and leader of the company’s CMMI initiative, commented, “This world-class rating positions STG to meet complex military and government requirements expertly. We’re seeing an increasing desire for quality management certifications in new programs. Certainly, this rating will impact our current and future performance-based contracts, which we hold with the U.S. Army, Department of Commerce and other key agencies. Employees and customers alike will continue to benefit from STG’s dedication to quality and best practices that are based on practical application and experience.”
According to Carnegie Mellon’s 2004 Software CMM® report, some 1,543 organizations have reported a maturity level rating. Of that number, eight percent of organizations are classified as Defense/Federal contractors that hold the CMMI Level 3 rating. STG is now one of an even smaller percentage of U.S. companies that are both CMMI Maturity Level 3 rated and ISO 9001:2000 certified.
The SEI is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. The SEI’s core purpose is to help organizations make measured improvements in their software engineering capabilities and develop the right software, delivered defect free, on time, and within budget, every time.
The CMMI credential demonstrates that STG’s software and systems engineering services apply systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches to development, operation, and maintenance support. Level 3 maturity means that STG’s standard processes are used to establish consistency across the organization.
Foote added, “All members of the STG team helped the corporation achieve this significant milestone.”
