White House Releases Comprehensive Climate Impacts Report for the United States
STG Employees Provide Essential Support to Federal Production Team

Reston, VA — June 18, 2009 — STG, Inc. (STG), a leading provider of information technology (IT), technical security, engineering and scientific services, provided professional support to the authors and production team at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) for a report the White House is calling “the most comprehensive climate report for the U.S. to date.”

Authored by an expert team of scientists, the report, “Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States,” summarizes the science of climate change and its impacts on the United States — now and in the future. It focuses on U.S. geographical regions and various aspects of society and the economy, such as energy, water, agriculture and health. To enhance public accessibility, the report is written in plain English, with the goal of better informing public and private decision making at all levels.

“This report is truly a team effort of 31 world-class scientist authors from around the country and from Canada, supported by a superb group of editors, writers and artists providing graphics, tracking references and improving the report’s clarity and readability,” said Dr. Thomas C. Peterson, one of the three co-chairs of the project.

The report was designed and produced by the Graphics Team at NOAA’s NCDC in Asheville, NC, with essential support from STG personnel. Susan Hassol — Climate Communications LLC, and a consultant to STG — served as Senior Science Editor for the report.

“STG staff worked seamlessly with federal members of the team,” said Sara Veasey, Graphics Team Leader at NCDC. “They were integral to the project; their hard work and dedication is evident in this report.”

STG employees provided writing support, graphic design (including original and adaptive illustration and layout), copy editing, proofreading and other editorial assistance as part of the NCDC Mission Support Services Contract, awarded in 2006. The STG team also provided support for 9 of 21 Synthesis and Assessment Product reports from the U.S. Global Change Research Program, providing the basis for much of this new climate report.
