STG is enthusiastic about helping small businesses. Why? Because small businesses often have the highly specialized knowledge and niche talent that are a perfect fit for some of our customers' unique project goals and specifications. In return, our small business partners receive training in a host of key business development areas, including operations, work requirements, financial and contract management, accounting, bidding strategies, proposal and offer development, and quality assurance processes. We provide marketing leads to many of these companies for upcoming small business and set-aside contracts that fall within their core capabilities.
Mentor/Protégé Program
To demonstrate our commitment to small businesses, STG established a Small Business Administration-approved Mentor/Protégé Program. The program provides our protégé organizations with technical and managerial advice and contract, financial and accounting management assistance. We provide training and business support to more than 20 small and disadvantaged companies in a host of functional areas, including marketing, business and proposal development, communications, quality assurance and ISO certification.

Success Story
Access to the Big Leagues
Access Systems, Inc. (ACCESS) began as a start-up, woman-owned, disadvantaged business in Reston, Virginia. When ACCESS applied for 8(a) status, STG provided management process training in government contracts to ensure that ACCESS managers were ready for certification. We trained their employees in the latest techniques for business lead identification, preparation of requests for proposals, and concepts and tools used in capture management and proposal development. STG provided ACCESS with mentoring in business strategies, costing strategies and proposal development. ACCESS now provides key professional and technical services to federal customers, including the Department of Transportation, Fisheries and Wildlife Service, and Department of Agriculture. Our assistance has contributed significantly to ACCESS' growth from a start-up company to one of the fastest growing companies in our industry.
Small Business Teammates
Partners in STG's Success
Small businesses are the engine that drives the economy — we value their contributions to STG's success. We work with small businesses in a number of ways, including reseller relationships, our Mentor/Protégé Program, joint ventures, teaming arrangements and subcontracting.
Our flexible contract vehicles make working with us easy. For small businesses and 8(a) firms, we offer many government-wide contracting vehicles.
Success Story
Department of State
One of the best examples of our commitment to small businesses is reflected in our work with the Department of State. In this project alone, STG teamed with 95 small, specialty and niche businesses to bring technical talent and solutions to our customer. We trained these companies in operating procedures, work requirements, financial and contract management, invoice processing and billing, job status accounting, bidding strategies, proposal development, oral presentations, preparation of responses for Best and Final Offers and quality assurance processes. We provided marketing leads to many of these companies for upcoming small business and set-aside contracts that fall within their core capabilities.
